Sputnika Game from indie dev egunan brings us a new take on the physics-based merge game genre by throwing space gravity into the equation. You’ll be working on helping the small Sputnik as he goes on a journey to eventually become the greatest star in the solar system…the Sun! You’ll start small and dream big as you try to get the best score possible before you run out of room for launching new pieces into play. Your run will end when a planet remains outside of the gravity bubble after touching another planet.

Given its arcade-style nature and high-score-chasing experience, the controls are going to be simple and to the point. You’ll aim at the desired location by using the left analog stick as you plan your move by checking out the general trajectory in which a piece will be traveling, and then launch it by pressing the ZR button. Once it enters the gravity field, it will be dragged by it to the center. You can press and hold down the B button to perform a power launch as well.

You will need to merge two identical planets to be able to unlock the next, much larger planet in the sequence. You’ll start out with the smallest one, which is Sputnik, and will then merge two of them to unlock Mercury. From there, as expected, the sequence after merging two of the same planets goes as follows: Mars, Venus, Earth, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter… and then the Sun!

And if you’re the type of player who not only likes to chase after the best score but also likes to 100% games, you’ll be happy to learn that this one features an in-game achievements system, which it calls Challenges. What will you need to do in order to 100% the game? Some of the objectives to complete include creating your first copy of each of the aforementioned planets, getting your first game over, scoring 500 points, scoring 1,250 points without the Sun, launching 1,000 Sputniks, and creating 3 Suns in total, to name some examples.

It’s a take on the genre made famous by Suika Game, in which you combine fruit to create new fruits, offering an experience similar to, say, the colorful and cozy indie release PancitoMerge from Fáyer on Nintendo’s console. Sputnika Game is out on Nintendo Switch with a budget price of only $2.99.
