Dream Cage from JanduSoft and Hitori De Productions is a first-person psychological horror experience where each night brings a new paralysis nightmare to endure. You’ll be tasked with making it through five nights, with each one presenting a confrontation with an entity based on conversations had with people who have experienced sleep paralysis in real life. You’ll be placed in the role of Robert, a 50-year-old individual who has been struggling with memory loss and insomnia for years now. You must find a way to remain silent, trying not to make a single sound… and you obviously shouldn’t scream.

Dream Cage Review - 1

There are 25+ anomalies for you to uncover, which will hopefully bring you one step closer to finding out what is going on with your mind. While things might seem simple, there’s something dark lurking behind what is going on. You’ll have to be careful, as there are five demons ready to haunt you while your microphone captures every sound. Be sure to find some pills to restore your mind and lower your fear… or else!

Since, as mentioned before, the game is presented from a first-person perspective, you’ll be using the left analog stick to take control of Robert as you use the right analog stick to move the camera view as needed. While exploring the world of Dream Cage, you will need to make sure that your fear gauge – located in the bottom-left corner of the screen – does not fill up. If this happens, you’ll get a game over.

Dream Cage PS5 Review - 2

You will collect a video camera early in the game, which will run on batteries. You can use the camera and press in on the right analog stick to scan for any anomalies that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. In order for you to be able to go to sleep, you must locate at least 7 of the 10 anomalies available during each night. In order to lower your fear and keep your mind in check, you’ll need to use the pills that you collect. Just press the R1 button as needed, and you should be good to go. Do know that the location of batteries and pills will be randomized each time you play, so be sure to search everywhere!

If your fear level increases too much – or if you make too much noise and it’s picked up by the microphone on the DualSense controller – then strange things will begin to happen around you, and dark entities will materialize. These can, unfortunately, only be seen through the video camera, which you’ll need to use so that you can hopefully manage to avoid them. Not being able to see them does not mean they’re not there! If you’re caught by an entity, then that night will restart. Being quiet is twice as important during the sleep paralysis phase, since failing will also restart the level.

Dream Cage PlayStation 5 Review - 3

Trophy-wise, this release features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy waiting for you. The list is split into 3 Bronze trophies, 5 Silver trophies, and 9 Gold trophies. What will you need to do in order to add this shiny Platinum trophy to your collection? Along with making it through each of the five nights, some of the additional objectives to complete include locating all of Robert’s journals in each night, finding every anomaly on each night, as well as getting both of the game’s endings. Since there are some missable trophies, if you need some extra help, you can check out this Dream Cage Trophy Guide.
