Coming to PSN: MiniSquadron (minis)

January 11, 2011 | | 11 Comments

A game that has been available for the iPhone for a while is now the subject of a port to the PSN minis range of games thanks to Grip Games and SuperMono Studios.  MiniSquadron is best described as and old school flavored 2D shoot-em-up that is contained within a few screens worth of space and has you going back and forth knocking down wave after wave of enemy planes.

MiniSquadron is a frantic shooter involving lots of little planes vying for the supremacy of the skies! The player takes control of one of his airplanes and has to battle for the victory, using crazy weapons and incredible aerial stunts!

Official Review: A Space Shooter For Two Bucks

December 21, 2010 | | 11 Comments

Let’s get things going with a message from the makers of this Two Dollar Bills project:

Since time immemorial, through eons of time and dozens of game consoles, one thing has remained true: humans love hopping into a spaceship to shoot up hordes of alien invaders! In A Space Shooter for Two Bucks! (a game with perhaps the most straight-forward title in history) you get to do just that. Take control of Commander P. Jefferson and go on an intergalactic shooting spree, hopping from galaxy to galaxy in your attempts to wipe out hordes of swarming alien baddies. With over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek humor from the game’s wide cast of colorful characters (all of which are fully voiced-over) and loads of bodacious power-ups to ensure your ship has a fighting chance against the sea of enemy ships and bullets, A Space Shooter for Two Bucks! gives gamers everything they could ask for in a space shooter!

With that as our starting point, we can now dive deeper into this new release. Since the game is only $2, how great it can be, right? Well, I’ve had more fun with it than with some $40-$60 retail releases so that should initially give you an idea of how good I think it is.

Official Review: Funky Lab Rat

December 10, 2010 | | 6 Comments

Hydravision has released Funky Lad Rat exclusively on the PSN both in Europe and the US, a very special game in time for the Christmas rush. The story for the game is simple: a lab rat breaks a container thus having access to some miraculous pills which allows said rat to grow super smart while, at the same time, gaining power over time and space in a funky way… or at least that’s  what I got after watching the starting cut-scene. This is a physics-based puzzle game, and we all know that a good puzzle game does NOT need a storyline. And a good puzzle game this is.

Here’s the trailer so you can better understand what I’ll be talking about:

Review Rewind: Devil May Cry 4

November 29, 2010 | | 7 Comments

Welcome to a new feature for PS3Blog.net. As many of you know, I’ve only owned a PS3 for a year (bought a slim console in November 2009) and thus, I had a list of several games I wanted to try for myself since I was a late owner and it’s been a while since Sony’s latest console materialized at retailers. This got me thinking about how there might be others that have either bought their PS3 in the last year or could have even just obtained theirs a couple of days ago, and that they might find this site (along with PS3trophies.org) and make it one of their “go to” destinations for everything PS3 related.

They won’t only need to know about the latest releases for their new console, as they would also  like to get an idea about what games they should add to their collection… as well as what games to only rent and/or avoid. It’s with that in mind that I realized that by adding reviews for older games we could better provide them with an “experience” that caters to most of their information needs.
