[PSOne Review] Shienryu
April 2, 2012 | EdEN | 4 CommentsShienryu is a classic vertical-scrolling Arcade shoot’em-up that was faithfully translated to the Playstation with good flair and fun back in 1999.
You’re captain of a sleek space craft out to defend the planet against a horrific enemy. The game can be flown alone or with a friend for added power (and laughs!). You’ll face off against towering alien mechs and endure a bedlam of bullets that will test your steel.
Warashi developed the game with stunning arcade graphics and gave intricate detail, which makes this shooter a wonderful play even to this day. The amount of particles on the screen and their effects in the background as they fall to the ground is superbly displayed. The variety of power ups and weapons give the game much diversity and increase its longevity.
Shienryu one of those great shooters you go to again and again cause its so much fun to shoot the living piss out of every mech coming at you. If you don’t laugh as you blast the Red Octopus boss in stage 3, then you really should have your humor bone honed. It’s a game that will surely keep your fingers tapping and your heart racing. A brilliant arcade classic.
Gaijinworks and MonkeyPaw Games Bring Us: Class of Heroes 2 – the Kickstarter!
March 29, 2012 | EdEN | 11 CommentsVic Ireland from Gaijinworks, and MonkeyPaw Games have decided to join forces, and bring us a great opportunity to show our support for the idea of bringing “Japan-only” RPGs to this side of the pond. MonkeyPaw Games has been hard at work securing the rights to several titles for the PSX that, up until recently, had been sentenced to a “import from Japan” fate. And Vic Ireland has been doing this for yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaars. Wait, what? You don’t know who Vic Ireland is? For shame!
For those of us that were fortunate enough to own a PSOne many, many years ago, Vic Ireland’s Working Designs was a godsend. Several games that had been released on the Sega CD (an attachment that allowed the Genesis to play CD based games), as well as others that had been hit with the dreaded “Japan-only” stick, were brought to the PSOne by Working Designs. And they did so in style.
[Review] Burger Time World Tour
March 16, 2012 | EdEN | 3 CommentsFor those not old enough to remember, the original BurgerTime was released in 1982 for arcades (arcades were rooms filled with TVs inside wood cabinets, and each TV was hooked up to a single game. Oh, and you inserted quarters in a slot in order to be allowed to play), and it was a 2D game that tasked you with avoiding 3 major enemies (Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle and Mr. Egg, the walking food), in order to assemble several giant burgers to clear the level.
You had to climb and drop from all available ladders, to make it to each burger layer, and trapping your food enemies within the burger layers allowed you to increase up your high-score. A top bun, lettuce, a tomato, a beef patty and the bottom bun made for a deliciously pixelated burger. We only had 6 levels to play, and once we reached the last one, we were looped back to level 1…and we liked it! After all these years, Burger Time is back, and this time around, we are going on a world tour, to prove to all other chefs that Peter Pepper (that would be the chef you control) is the best one there is at making burgers.
