PS3 Slim Introduced – As Well as the Price Cut

Yep, it has been officially confirmed, the PS3’s new SKU will hit stores in September and be in all regions by the 11th. Price? $299 USD, 299 euros, and 29,980 yen. That wasn’t a surprise there. It will also have the same features as the current model and a 120GB HDD (so we still only get 2 USB ports).

The system itself is 32 percent smaller, 36 percent lighter and uses 34 percent less power consumption. What I’m disappointed about, though, is it’s design. Looks like Eddie was right all along and now I’m going to have to eat my words while he rubs it in :P. I still think it’s one of the ugliest things Sony’s ever made (though it doesn’t look as bad as it did in the leaks). They could have done a lot better than that!

Besides that, though, that is also the price point for all the current systems as well, starting tomorrow. I believe, because of this, sales will skyrocket and surpass the XBox 360 (about time) by the end of the year (at least, for total sales this year, not cumulative). All I can say is, about damn time!
