Terrifier: The ARTcade Game from Selecta Play and Relevo is a gory, Rated M for Mature beat ’em up inspired by the classics from the 1980s and 1990s. The game is based on the slasher film series Terrifier, which got its first release in 2016, followed by a sequel in 2022 and another one in 2024. You’ll be jumping into the role of the Art The Clown, the evil villain from the aforementioned series, as you wreak havoc and slash your way through the levels on offer. Each of the levels is one of the movie sets or locations where a film about Art the Clown is set to be shot, but you’re not going to let that happen!

This one can be played with up to four players, thanks to the local multiplayer on offer, with four different character options in total. But before you start to play, the game presents the following disclaimer, just to make it extra clear that this one is not going to be for everyone:

This game contains disturbing images and scenes of explicit pixel art violence and gore.

 

You can play through the Story Mode, which features cutscenes and other story elements, or jump into Arcade Mode, which more closely mimics the old-school arcade beat ’em ups of ages past. There’s also a Versus Mode in which you can duke it out against another player. You can also unlock three additional modes: Wave Mode, Time Attack Mode, and Boss Rush Mode, which are pretty self-explanatory.

As you jump into action with the character of your choice, you’ll be taking control of it by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad, jumping with the B button, and attacking with the Y button. You can use a stronger but slower attack by pressing the X button, and mixing these with your regular attacks will allow you to perform combos. Run by pressing and holding down the L button. Dash by using the A button to try to avoid incoming attacks. Walk close to an enemy to grab it, so that you can then punch at it over and over again.

When an enemy has been damaged enough, it might end up in a stunned state. This will allow you to rush toward it and press the X button for a gory finisher attack. As you defeat enemies, your special move bar will start to fill up. Once you have enough energy, you’ll be able to unleash your special move by pressing the R button. Grab items with the X button, so that you can then put them to good use for your gory cause.
