Static Dread: The Lighthouse from Contrast Games and Solarsuit Games is a first-person survival horror experience on PlayStation 5. The game takes place after the events of a global cataclysm. Harbor authorities have decided to reactívate a rather ancient lighthouse in hopes of keeping the seas navigable amidst the growing chaos. You’ll be playing as a lighthouse keeper, which means that you’ll need to do your best as you guide ships to safety as they sail into the harbor. You’ll be using your radio for this… as you deal with an evil presence that lurks in the shadows.

You have a wife and daughter to return to, so you’ll need to be extra careful, even if with each passing night, things get crazier and crazier. What are you to do when a vessel returns from distant travel, only to realize that it’s completely empty and its entire crew has vanished? To make matters worse, the people of the local fishing village seem to have been performing some dark rituals… to raise the dead!

 

Since the game is played from a first-person perspective, you’ll walk around each area by using the left analog stick, and you use the right analog stick to look around you as needed. You can move a bit faster by pressing and holding down the R1 button. Interact by pressing the X button. Press the Square button to use your flashlight. This is very important since the lights can go out at any moment. You can grab some objects by pressing the R2 button, and then place them elsewhere or throw them by pressing the L2 button.

You should check your to-do list for the lighthouse so that you can work on fixing things and preparing everything to help the vessels that are in desperate need of some guidance. You’ll have to adjust the antennas to a wide range and protect them from overload. Replace the fuses, check the lighthouse rotation mechanism, get a crowbar, turn on the lights, and clean up the place. You know, the usual. Oh, and before doing any of that, you should make sure that all lights in the lighthouse are turned on. The darkness is… bad.

You need to help ships make it to their destination port. Once you receive a document from a ship, you’ll have to start at its current position and mark the path it should take to reach its destination port. If there’s no destination port marked, then you should lead them toward the port stated by the Chief for that day as quickly as possible. Sometimes you’ll need to send specific ship types to one port in particular, so be sure to pay attention!

Working each day and night can definitely zap away your energy. This is why you should pay attention to your general health and eat and drink something every now and then to stay in as good a shape as possible. You’ll start with some snacks and drinks on the first day, but you will need to make the most of your pay to purchase food from the fisherman and some items that can aid you. A bit of clam chowder will restore your energy and calm your mind. A fresh sardine will help with your hunger while also making you work faster. Maybe you should get a fishing rod to catch some fish before your shift starts.

Trophy-wise, this release features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy waiting for you. The list is split into 29 Bronze trophies, 11 Silver trophies, and 3 Gold trophies. Along with the trophies that will pop as you complete each of the many days that you’ll spend working at the lighthouse, there are also trophies for turning on the lighthouse for the first time, putting on the lighthouse keeper’s hat, getting the crowbar, buying all items from the trader, saving up $4,000, and collecting all hats, to name some examples. While working at the lighthouse, some bizarre events will take place. Things like cobwebs popping out here and there out of nowhere, the lights going out for no reason, and peculiar drawings on the wall that seem to have been made out of blood. That’s all before you receive a call from the darkness itself, warning you about the light. Static Dread: The Lighthouse is out on PlayStation 4 with a $12.99 price tag.
